Hotel Rwanda
In the movie Hotel Rwanda there are some stages that can be compared to the Burma Genocide. Extermination being a big comparison was shown by how the army's and soldiers murdered the civilians. Though some were killed instantly for no specific reason, many went through a great period of time when they had no food. The Burmese's food was burned and the citizens in the Hotel Rwanda movie had to give up their food to the soldiers. In order for the soldiers to take control of more land they would attack houses, then burn them down in both Burma Genocide and Hotel Rwanda to run them out of the villages. Not only did they have the same extermination ideas but the denial was similar in some ways as well. Hotel Rwanda and the Burma Genocide has had a lot of media coverage, the Burma Genocide may have not had had as much as Hotel Rwanda but they still had some. The reason for the media coverage was for them to let people around the world and not just in Burma and Rwanda know what really was going on. Showing everyone how they were being treated and asking for help. Even though the soldiers had tried very hard to not make it seem like what they were doing as a big deal, but they ended up being unsuccessful. There are many people who are still being affected by both of these events, even though it occurred years ago, just wishing that they could forget about what happened.
Night- Burma Comparison
Classification
Night- In the book night the Jews were selected and killed by the Nazi army. They were burn and slaughtered with no thought of who they were. They did not care whether they were children, adult, male, or female they all had to die. These people were put into labor camps to force them to do work. If they became too weak to work they were killed. They were all slowly being killed off till the Allie army came in to stop them. The Jews were being killed for their religion and for their back ground. They never truly did anything wrong.
Burma- In Burma the Karen people were being killed by the Burma government. They were being killed for their religious view and who they were. They truly never did anything wrong to deserve this punishment. They did not care the type of people whether they were young, old, and the sex of the person they killed them all. They used methods of war, like rap, to slow try and control they Karen people. They were force to do labor and were killed with no hesitation if they resisted. People in Burma a suffering today and there has not been much done to stop them.
Together- Both of these genocides are terrible the way that the people are treated. Both are being killed with no hesitation. Both groups have no way in fighting back. In Night the people were just waiting for their deaths. In Burma that is what people do everyday. They will just sit waiting for their deaths to come. Another thing is that religion is one of the big reasons that they were put into the situation. The Karen and Jews were just viewing their God in the way that they wanted. When they were being killed in ether situation it did not mater who they were. They could have been a big official leader but in the depths of hell they were all killed the same. No one could escape the trap of death that they were in. The last thing I would like to point out is that they people were both a selected group of people. The Jews in one and the Karen in the other. Many people could have been and still could be put into these situations. People need to realize that every day must be cherished because genocide could be on the way.
Dehumanization
Night- In the book night it is of the Jews during the holocaust. Most people know that the Jews were shown with the yellow star to show who they were. This was branding them almost like they were cattle. To get brought to the camp they were put into to cattle cars. Packed in and with little food and water. They were worked like dogs at the camps and killed off as if they were worth nothing. When they were not worth nothing to the camp they were killed like an animal would be after they have lost their value.
Burma- In Burma it is hard to show how the Karen people have been dehumanized. One example would be how they are treated. They were told to work or to die. They were treated as if they were work horses. In Burma the Karen people were starved by their own government. The crops of their land would be burn to kill them off. The one thing that is the most sick is the rape of the women. The Burmese army would rape the women to force children on them of their race. They would force them to have children in unfit conditions.
Together- Both of the people have been tried as if they were dirt or even worse. These people have been force to do the work of their enemy. Only because of disbelief they were forced to do work. If they did not want to do the work they would be killed on the spot. No one would want to work under the conditions these people had to deal with. They were given little to no food every day. If you are the Karen people then your food was burned right in front of your own eyes with nothing you could do. The living conditions these people had to deal with would make a normal person through up. They both lived under not much of a roof. They would also have little to no room to sleep. With only the thought of another long day to try and sleep on. The only difference is the forcing of children on the Karen women. They Jewish women would only be killed. In both cases though the thought of getting rid of the race was in mind. Both groups were trying to kill all that they could. With no one left behind to tell of their stories.
